This summer I was able to meet up with my Dad and my Aunt in New England for a couple days during the last leg of their bicycle trip across the country with America by Bicycle. I had a blast following the group as they traveled together on their last day. It was an amazing feeling to turn the corner, following their police escort to the beach, and catch a glimpse of the Atlantic Ocean. It must have been an incredible feeling for them too, knowing they made it to the other side of the country on their bicycles.
I produced a video for Hooplaha.com that is currently featured on their site. Here is the video and a few photos from the day. Congratulations to everyone.
Took a quick trip to New England for the first time. I learned:
- the Piscataqua River is the 3rd fastest flowing river in the United States
- Smuttynose is not just the name of a beer, but also the name of a tiny island with two cabins, a flag pole, and a murderous history
- Lobster is difficult to eat, especially when you are sitting next to a vegetarian
- Bicycling is the fountain of youth
- You must fill up your tank before returning a rental car, or be charged $8.00 per gallon
I also went into a home that was built in 1716. It was incredible.
There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart. -Celia Thaxte
